GEMMA CASTRO LYING FOR YOUR LOVE
Gemma Castro's musical journey began in the church where she would sing, and later led her the choir during her formative years - connecting to the spiritual role and importance of music early on. She continued her musical research studying jazz and singing opera. She is a classically trained vocalist, an instrumentalist and producer who has recorded and performed with a variety of artists, including singing with latin jazz artist Poncho Sanchez, and soul group Brainstory. Currently based out of L.A, Gemma performs solo, as well as with a band, showcasing her music in Mexico and the United States. Her new single 'Lying For Your Love', features contorted keyboards that bow in and out of tune, with a single rimshot acting as a metronome. Gemma's vocals are wonderfully jazz-inflected, like a more morose Winehouse, singing with a certain affliction: "You got me lying for your love", as stacked backing harmonies respond: "This ain't the real love". 'Lying For Your Love' is a wonderfully unique jazz song that uses simple elements, avoiding overcrowding, which creates a beautifully unique and melancholic piece. -Ellie Rose-Davies
